New Version of SAP DB 7.4 Documentation

As of April 2003, the complete SAP DB documentation has been processed and several new documents were published.
The documentation page has been completely reworked.

• The User Manual SAP DB was renamed in The SAP DB Database System and contains new information on log settings in SAP DB version 7.4.04, setting up standby instances, and the creation of homogeneous system copies.
• A spotlight explains in detail the new developments in SAP DB log settings from version 7.3 to 7.4.
• A new Installation Manual and The Database Software Installation Guide are published. The Installation Manual describes the installation, update, and uninstallation of SAP DB software, and the upgrade of database instances with their software, both for SAP customers and Open Source users, whereas The Database Software Installation Guide is an extract of the Installation Manual describing in short form the standard installation/update, and standard uninstallation, of the entire SAP DB software package for Open Source users.
• A new documentation on the performance analysis tool Database Analyzer is available.
• The German version of the SAP DB Online Library can be downloaded from the ftp server. At the moment, the content corresponds to the English version. Nevertheless, it is not updated as often as the English version.
  Note: If your browser changes the package extension from tgz to tar during the download, rename the package to tgz before installing it.
• A package (14 MB) containing the PDF files made of the English version of the SAP DB Online Library can be found on the ftp server, too. A link to that package is no longer included in the documentation page since it was often misunderstood as being of equal value as the online version.
  The SAP DB Online Documentation is logically structured for online use. Once merely stored in PDF format it cannot completely reflect that logical structure. It is just intended for an easy printout of a certain section or procedure. But it is not the best format for getting to know the subject the documentation deals with.
